Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre is a registered Non Governmental and non profit organization established in the year 1986 to provide comprehensive health care and Community Based Programmes for the uplift of rural disabled, children of leprosy patients, rural poor and underprivileged. Ecomwel orthopaedic centre feels happy and honored for serving thousands of disabled in bringing them to the mainstream of society.
Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre strives for the empowerment and overall development of the disabled through education, training and employment. Ecomwel Orthopaedic Center’s intervention in this direction begins with awareness creation in rural areas, new born screening, early detection and early intervention to wide ranges of services like special school, inclusive education and Community Based Rehabilitation.
We provide, comprehensive rehabilitation right from physical to economic rehabilitation and is implemented through institutional and Community Based approaches.
St. Judes School for Mentally Challenged is a residential special school for mentally challenged for the welfare of children with Mental Retardation, Cerebral Palsy, Autism and Multiple Disabilities. It is recognized by the Government of Tamilnadu (R.C. No.5595/SS.III/2004)under state commissionerate for the handicapped. 124 children are getting benefited from this programme. Parents are encouraged to participate in the educational and therapeutic programmes of the children.
Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre is implementing SAMARTH Centre Based Services supported by National Trust, New Delhi and 30 students are benefited under this scheme.
Rural Health Care
Rural Health Care Centre spearheads a comprehensive health care programme launched in the year 1994. Under this programme, outpatient clinic is being run and medical facilities like clinical investigations, pharmacy, physiotherapy, dressing etc. are provided. These facilities are availed by our school children and rural public.
Well equipped physiotherapy unit caters to the needs of the differently abled. Differently abled children are admitted for physiotherapy management and for developmental therapy. This unit helps the differently abled children a lot, who are studying in our school and staying in our hostel. General cases are also attending the physiotherapy unit.
The ultimate aim of Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre is to provide self employment opportunities for the persons with disability thereby enabling their economic empowerment. Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre houses a vocational training unit for this purpose. In this unit, persons with disability are given training to make handicraft items. We are also providing this training to other welfare organizations to setup vocational training programme for the differently abled.
Community Based Rehabilitation
Community Based Rehabilitation aims at empowering the persons with disabilities as an integral part of society with better quality of life through an integrated development programmes and total integration of persons with disabilities to attain equal social status and skills through people organization.
Ecomwel Orthopaedic Centre conducts awareness programmes such as Puppet show, Villu Pattu and Street play on prevention and early identification of disabilities, importance of early intervention, rehabilitation programmes for persons with disabilities and different government schemes and concessions available for the differently abled. We have a trained team to conduct these programmes.
