Kumbakonam – a temple town in Thanjavur district of Tamil Nadu (South India) is famous for Mahamaham festival that happens once every 12 years.

Unfortunately, for a long time, this temple town lacked a special school for mentally challenged children.

On September 15 1994, the ISHWAR school for mentally challenged children was started, with four students. Now 56 special children benefit from this school.

Like us, you can also make a difference in the life of a mentally challenged and handicapped. Donate liberally to ISHWAR. It goes towards the welfare of the physically and mentally challenged.

Make sure to visit ISHWAR when you are at Kumbakonam, the temple town.

This society is a non-profit organization that runs primarily from the subscriptions and donations received from its members, other charitable trusts and individuals. Rotary Club of Kumbakonam Central and its members play a major role in the growth of the society and the school. Some members of Rotary club and Lions club also contribute to the society. Since the available funds are not sufficient to meet the annual expenses of the school, the society collects a nominal monthly fee from the affordable students.

The members of the Board, who runs the society meet periodically to discuss the affairs of the society and make decisions. The Principal and the Correspondent of the ISHWAR school also participate in board meetings. The annual general body meeting is held with all the members of the society. All the important decisions and future plans are made in this meeting. The Chartered Accountant of the society is G. Suryanarayanan, F.C.A. The accounts of the society are audited annually and reports are submitted to the District Registrar of Societies.

Rotary club of Kumbakonam Central along with the Rotary Club of Guarapuava, Brazil got a Matching Grant from the Rotary Foundation and donated a school bus for ISHWAR school in June 2002. Also presently the Rotary club of Kumbakonam Central along with Rotary club of Cupertino, California has obtained a Matching Grant under Humanitarian Programs from the Rotary Foundation for providing a Vocational Training center for the ISHWAR Society.

Rehabilitation Council of India (Government of India) also released two grants in the past towards running the ISHWAR school and the society is making efforts to receive such similar grants in the future.

Liberal Donations from charitable minded individuals or trusts will be of great support in achieving the noble objectives of the society. Donations can be made as Demand Draft or cheque favouring “ISHWAR” to the Society’s address.
