National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP)

Government of IndiaThe basic objective of the NSAP is to provide solace to the most vulnerable section of the society including differently abled people. In February 2009, the Government approved pension under Indira Gandhi National Disability Pension Scheme (IGNDPS) under NSAP for BPL persons with severe or multiple disabilities between the age group of 18-64 years @ $ 200 p.m. per beneficiary.

Consequent upon the lowering of age under IGNOAPS the upper age limit under IGNDPS has been lowered from 64 years to 59 years. w.e.f. 1.10.2012 the amount of pension under IGNDPS has been increased to $ 300 p.m. and upper age limit has been increased to 79 years. Hence, IGNDPS is applicable to persons with severe or multiple disabilities between the age group of 18-79 years and belonging to household living below poverty line (BPL) as per criteria prescribed by Government of India. As per last report till December 2012, 7 lakh beneficiaries have been covered under the scheme.
