Tamil Nadu CM appoints 95 differently abled as teachers

An official press release here said, of the 95 teachers appointed, 68 were men and the rest women. With this, 856 differently abled people, including blind, had been appointed as graduate teachers in government schools.The release said, so far 29 people were appointed as PG teachers, 22 as teacher trainers and 227 as middle-level teachers, taking the number of appointments of differntly abled people to 1,114.
Mr Karunanidhi was instrumental in taking steps to address people with blind, deaf and dumb and physically handicapped as differently abled people. He also formed a separate department under his direct supervision for their welfare. The department would be headed by an IAS officer.
Stating that the government has been devoting special attention to provide jobs in various government departments to differently abled people, Mr Karunanidhi said after the DMK came to power in 2006, as many as 56,225 people were appointed as teachers in government schools under the School Education Department. Of this, 236 were blind and 549 were physically handicapped.He said another 47 blind people were especially recruited through the Social Welfare Department as middle-level teachers in government schools.
