Vidya Sagar, an organisation working with children and young adults with disability is celebrating its 30th Anniversary on 15th March 2015.
Started in a small garage with three students and two staff, by a mother Mrs. Poonam Natarajan, today Vidya Sagar is housed in an accessible building and works with over 3800 people with disabilities across the country in any given year.
Vidya Sagar was one of the pioneer organisations that worked with multiple disabilities way back in 1985, in Chennai. Today also, it does pioneering work in the area of rehabilitation, advocacy and training.
Vidya Sagar is known for the quality and range of programs. With it’s “professionalism with care” and the pro-active and positive spirit of its team of staff and children, Vidya Sagar focuses on holistic development and education of children and adults with special needs, on demystification of disability, empowering persons with special needs and their families with knowledge and skills, while strongly advocating on issues of disability rights.
As part of our celebrations, one of the key events is the launch of a website which features profiles of 69 of the alumni students. And this is not all ……….over the year there will be more profiles posted on the website. This form of documentation is probably the first of its kind. Vidya Sagar is celebrating its students!
The alumni themselves are also launching their “Alumni Associations”.
This is going to be followed by a dance recital by a well known dancer Ms. Aarabhi Badri who is also a special educator in Vidya Sagar. She is performing with some of our students.
Finally there is a carnival for the students, parents, siblings and friends of Vidya Sagar. All this is to celebrate our magical 30 years.
