International Disability Film Festival at Sathyam Cinemas

This is a great opportunity to watch some amazing films from over 15 countries by, with and about people with disabilities. Entry to the Fest is free, but everyone needs to carry a delegate pass. Passes will be available at the Ability Foundation office (26, 2nd Cross Street, Gandhinagar, Adyar, Chennai 600020) on October 7 and 8(Fri, Sat) from 10 AM to 4 PM, and from 9am on October 10 at the venue. Central government schemes for the rehabilitation of persons with disabilities

The enactment of the people with disabilities, equal opportunities and protection of Right Act of 1995 is a landmark legislation and an expression of India’s commitment of social justice.

Empowerment for the Differently Abled

The degree of evolvement of a society is gauged by the manner in which it cares for those on its fringes or those placed at any kind of disadvantage vis-a-vis the rest of society at large due to force of circumstances such as birth, age or disability. A truly compassionate society makes allowances for such infirmities in a non-intrusive, participative and sensitive manner, ensuring equal opportunities to all by providing a level playing field.

Equal insurance benefits for differently-abled

The Central Government informed the Delhi High Court that equal benefits for postal life insurance will be provided to the differently-abled government employees with a maximum limit of Rs 5,00,000.

Financial Assistance – Public Sector Banks

Under the Scheme for Public Sector Banks for Orphanages, Women’s Homes and Physically Handicapped Persons, the benefits of the differential rate of interest are available to physically handicapped persons as well as institutions working for the welfare of the handicapped.

Financial Assistance to Persons with Disabilities

Incentives for Employers for Hiring Persons with Disabilities

Employees with disabilities with monthly wages of up to Rs.25000/- per month working in the private sector would be covered under this scheme. Government shall pay the employer’s contribution to the Employees Provident Fund and Employees State Insurance for the first three years. The scheme has already come into force.
