AICB ( All India Confederation Of The Blind ) conducts this competition in memory of Madanlal Khandelwal, an ardent supporter of the blind. Late Shri Madanlal Khandelwal based in London, was a reputed social worker and sponsored various Braille promotion programmes during his life time through this Organization.
Rules and regulations as well as topics for the essay competition for junior and senior groups are given below for your ready reference:
- There will be two groups of competitors—one Junior group up to the age of 25 years and the second Senior group from the age of above 25 years.
- Group-wise topics for the essay competition are:
- Junior group (Hindi): “Bhavishya mein Drishtiheenon ke liye upyogee nye takneekee upkaran—kya or kyon?.”
- Junior group (English): “Your priorities for new technological devices required for the visually impaired in future and why.”
- Senior group (Hindi): “Social Media—Upyogita Va Dushparinam.”
- Senior group (English): “Social Media—merits and demerits.”
- The essay should be written by the blind participants in Hindi or English.
- Essays should be written in uncontracted Braille in Indian languages. For English, the essays should be written in contracted Braille (grade-2).
- Essays should be written by Braille slate or Braille typewriter/Perkins Brailler. In no case should the essays be entered on the computers and converted into Braille through a translation software.
- Essays should be written on one side of the sheet only and each page number should be marked in continuation at the top right-hand corner.
- Maximum length of the essay for junior group should be between 600-800 words and for senior group between 800-1000 words inclusive of applicant’s name, age, address phone No., topic of the essay. The essays not written as per the prescribed word limits shall not be included in the competition.
- The Competition carries certificates and three cash prizes of Rs. 6000, 4,000 and 2,000 for junior group and Rs. 8000, 5000 and 3000 for senior group in each language. Thus, in each language there shall be 6 cash prizes for the winners.
- The essays must be completely original in nature.
- The essays in each language shall be examined by reputed persons and their decision shall be final and binding for all.
- For determining the best three entries in each language group the following shall be kept in mind:
- Content
- Language and style
- Braille proficiency and neatness
- Last date for receipt of essays in Braille in AICB office shall be 30th September, 2015.
- On each envelope language of the essay and junior or senior group should be mentioned.
