There are hundreds of paraplegics in India who need attention and clinical services which are not available in India and the available facilities are in no way comparable to the ones existing in advanced countries. In the absence of such facilities Indian paraplegics suffer a lot undergoing stress and pain with little care for their physical conditions and their psychological needs. Many suffer from bedsores and their own kith and kin neglect them. This leads to gross wastage of talent and premature and to their career. Many persons have become paraplegics due to muscular dystrophy, accidents, terrorist strikes and war.
The need of the hour is an integrated facility with paramedical aids and equipped with modern facilities physiotherapy and occupational training to get them out from their shells of depression and make them eke out a living for themselves to the extent possible. While some facilities are available for war victims in the military paraplegics care centers there are no such facilities for civilians in India. Given an opportunity to these paraplegic youngsters, who are victims of fate, they could contribute to the society, their skill and talents and add to the progress of the Nation.
Built at a considerable cost, the hostel and the Physiotherapy Unit at Amar Seva Sangam offer a fully equipped State-of-the-art technology unique in this part of the country comparable to international standards. The hostel has the capacity to accommodate 20 beds and admission will be on “First come first serve” basis.
