Sadhya Educational Trust was set up in the year 2002, to be a Resource Center for parents of hearing impaired children. Parents, on suspecting that their child might not be hearing or is not speaking, begin to seek help from various sources. These include pediatricians, ENT Doctors, auditory verbal therapists, audiologists, speech therapists, hearing aid specialists, special schools, counsellors, friends and alternative treatment methods.
PREMA VASAM is a A home for the Mentally & Physically Challenged and Less Fortunate Children. It is the only home of its kind that caters to the needs of a large number of special children along with the less fortunate normal children. It aims to work with these special children and their families irrespective of caste, creed, religion and financial background. As the name Prema Vasam means, it is a place of love or where love resides. Prema Vasam provides residential care to the children who are differently abled, mentally challenged and less fortunate. It renders relentless service to these children to realize their potentials and to enable them to serve others. It is registered under Charitable Trust Act, Registration No.419 of 1999. Further it is a non profitable organization.
SCARF is the acronym for the Schizophrenia Research Foundation, a non governmental, non profit organization in Chennai ( formerly Madras) in south India Founded in 1984 by a group of philanthropists and mental health professionals led by Dr. M.Sarada Menon, an internationally known psychiatrist, SCARF has established itself as a center of repute in rehabilitation and research in disorders of the mind.
Presently EI centre for Hearing Impaired is providing services to 14 hearing impaired children out of them 10 undergo school based training and 4 undergo home based training. Medium of instruction is English.
This fleeting attention span could be attributed to his disrupted visual processing (one form of Sensory Processing Disorder) as he was not able to filter out unnecessary visual information (sensation) and focus on the task at hand. All visual sensations (images, light, faces etc) seem equally important and hence he finds it determine what is relevant and what is not for that particular situation. We observe it as distractibility.
A lot of children are aware of location and what is expected of them there. For e.g. they might really hold it together at school, where they know their freedom is limited and may not manifest many of their sensory integration problems at school. They will, however, fall apart when they get home. They know they’re in a safe environment and the impact and stress of their day may come out.
The child may be constantly on the move or may be slow to activate and fatigue easily. Again, some children may fluctuate from one extreme to the other.
