Budget 2015: Higher allocation for Ministry of Social Justice

Budget 2015 – Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment will get a higher budgetary allocation in the next financial year with a total allocation of over Rs 7,000 crore, a hike of nearly Rs 1,200 crore.

Higher allocation for Ministry of Social JusticeWhile the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has received a hike of over Rs 1,000 crore, Department of Disability Affairs has received a hike of nearly Rs 200 crore in 2015-16 fiscal year, when compared with the ongoing revised 2014-15 fiscal.

According to the budget allocation for the next financial year, the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment has been earmarked with Rs 6,524.82 crore while the Department of Disability Affairs has been earmarked with Rs 636.94 crore.

The social security and welfare of Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes has got over Rs 2,100 crore this year.

Self Employment Scheme of Liberation and Rehabilitation of Scavengers has been earmarked with Rs 460 crore.

The allocation for total Welfare of Persons with Disabilities is up by over Rs 160 crore this year, which has been allocated with Rs 527.93 crore.

Allocation for Aids and Appliances for differently-abled people has also been increased to Rs 112 crore.

The objective of Aids and Appliances scheme is to provide Grants-in-aid to various implementing agencies to assist the needy disabled persons in procuring durable, sophisticated and scientifically manufactured, modern, standard aids and appliances that can promote their physical, social and psychological rehabilitation.
