The Interschool Talent Contest for differently able students.

Soroptimist International of Chennai has been conducting Interschool Oratorical Contests exclusively for students with Learning Disabilities as an annual feature since 2003. Students of some of the city’s special schools have been participating in the contest. The aim of the contest is to encourage students with Learning Disabilities to participate in such activity, since such opportunity is otherwise not available to them.

Railway concession for blind & mentally impaired persons extended to Rajdhani & Shatabdi

The Ministry of Railways has decided to extend facility of concession in rail fare to completely blind persons and mentally retarded persons in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. The concession for both the categories would be 25 per cent in 3rd AC and AC Chair Car in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. Same concession will also be admissible to one escort accompanying such person.

Mentally retarded children may take longer to speak, walk and take care of their personal needs like going to the bathroom and eating.
