‘பிச்சை புகினும் கற்கை நன்றே!’ என்கிறது மூதுரை. காரைக்குடி பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் மாற்றுத் திறனாளி செல்வராஜ் பிச்சை எடுத்து 13 ஏழைக் குழந்தைகளைப் படிக்கவைத்துக்கொண்டு இருக் கிறார்.

குழந்தைகூட என்னைவிட வேகமா நடக்கும். நான் அவ்ளோ மெதுவா நடப்பேன். ஆனா, ‘இதுவே பெரிய விஷயம்’னு டாக்டர்கள் சொன்னாங்க. ‘சாதிச் சிருவோம்’னு எனக்கே நம்பிக்கை வந்தது அப்பதான்.

Neeraj, whose life took a shocking turn when his left leg had to be amputated because of bone tumour during school days, is the first player from Kerala to win an international level badminton championship for the differently-abled.

பிறப்பாலும், விபத்தாலும் உடல் உறுப்புகளில் மாற்றம் நிகழ்ந்தவர்களை நாம் மாற்றுத் திறனாளிகள் என்கிறோம். மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள் என்று சொல்வதில் கூட எனக்கு உடன் பாடில்லை.. உயர் திறனாலிகள் என்றே சொல்லலாம். சராசரி மனிதர்களை விட அதிக கூர்மையான அறிவு படைத்தவர்கள் இவர்கள்.. எண்ணங்களை ஒரு முகப்படுத்தி தாம் செய்யும் எந்த ஒரு செயலாக இருந்தாலும் அதை வெற்றியுடன் முடிப்பதில் இவர்கள் திறமைசாலிகள்.
மலைபோல் எழுந்த மாற்றுத்திறனாளி
நான் இரண்டு மாதக் குழந்தையாக இருந்து போது, ஒரு கொடிய காய்ச்சல் என்னை தாக்கிய தாகவும், அதன் விளைவாக நான் கண்பார்வை இழந்ததாகவும் என் பெற்றோர் சொல்வார்கள்.எனக்கு பார்வை கிடைக்க பெரிதும் முயற்சி செய்தனர். நானும் அலோபதி, ஹோமி யோபதி மற்றும் சித்தா என பல மருத்துவ முறைகளைப் பின்பற்றியும் எந்தப்பயனும் இருக்க வில்லை.
உள்ளத்தில் நல்ல உள்ளம்-யார் இவர்?
நம் வாழ்க்கையில் பல வேறுபட்ட குணமுள்ள மனிதர்கள் நம்மை கடந்து சென்று இருப்பார்கள். அதில் ஒரு சிலர் நம் மனதை அதிகமாக கவர்ந்துவிடுவார்கள். பதிவுலகம் வந்தபின் எனக்கு தெரிந்தவர்கள் வட்டம் விரிந்துகொண்டே செல்கிறது…அதிலும் முக்கியமாக நெல்லை பதிவர்கள் சந்திப்பிற்கு பிறகு, என் அலைவரிசையோடு ஒன்றி போனவர்களை நான் தொடர்ந்து சந்தித்து வருகிறேன் என்பது மிக ஆச்சரியம்.

Jayshree says she is optimistic about the proposed bill providing a “level playing field” to the differently-abled. “The Disabled Persons Act, 1996, could not satisfy the aspirations of the disabled and many of its recommendations were not implemented. Once the bill comes into effect, the disabled will be able to ask for their rights for an accessible environment. We are asking for equal opportunities, access to education, employment, recreation and transportation; for our rightful space in society,” says Jayshree.

அந்த இளைஞருடைய பெயர் நிக். இருபத்தெட்டு வயது. நடக்கிறார், சிரிக்கிறார், பேசுகிறார், வாசிக்கிறார், கோல்ப் விளையாடுகிறார். கீழே விழுகிறார், மீண்டும் அவரே சிரமப்பட்டு எழுந்து நிற்கிறார்… கொஞ்சம் பொறுங்க சார். 28 வயது ஆள் இதையெல்லாம் செய்யறது ஒரு பெரிய விஷயமா? இதைப்போய் மகா அதிசயம்மாதிரி சொல்ல வந்துட்டீங்களே!
அதிசயம்தான் சார். இவ்வளவையும் சர்வசாதாரணமாகச் செய்கிற நிக்கிற்கு இரண்டு கைகளும் இல்லை. இரண்டு கால்களும் இல்லை!
1982-ம் வருடம் ஆஸ்திரேலியாவில் நிக் பிறந்தபோதே அவருக்குக் கைகள், கால்கள் இல்லை. வெறும் உடம்பு மட்டும்தான். இதற்கு என்ன மருத்துவக் காரணம் என்று இதுவரை யாருக்கும் தெரியவில்லை.
