Parkinson’s Patients Walking Stick – Chalte Raho is a walking stick that stimulates movement in patients with Freezing of gait through a visual trigger in the form of a beam of light projected on the ground in front of them. Launched in 2016 it is already helping people all over India move better.

This helps both with freezing as well as to correct the gait of patients that shuffle while walking.

• Parkinson’s patients are usually above the age of 50. They have various different symptoms ranging from tremors and freezing of gait to depression and anxiety.

How does it work ?

• The patient switches on the stick before he/she begins walking.
• As soon as the patient experiences freezing he/ she presses the button under the handle.
• A laser line projected on the floor provides the patient with an external cue. He/she steps over the line and continues walking.

• A battery life of 2 weeks.
• Adjustable height and light weight.

Current availability

• Patients can currently avail of a free trial at any Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorder Society (PDMDS) support group in India.
• A similar product is available in the USA and Europe, but the cost of it is roughly 300 dollars (Rs 20000) making it inaccessible to most Parkinson’s patients in India.
• This product is sold at Rs 5000.
