3-Day Workshop on Design and Production of Tactile Graphics

Venue : Centre of Excellence in Tactile Graphics, Room No: 503, Bharti Building, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas New Delhi | India.
The Centre of Excellence in Tactile Graphics (COETG) is organizing second intensive three- day workshop on the design and production of tactile diagrams. The goal of the workshop is to provide hands on experience to the tactile designers, special educators and transcribers in designing and producing tactile diagrams from the printed or digital graphics. On day 1 of the workshop, focus would be on making diagrams and content especially in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) accessible through simple tools and techniques as well as various computer software. On day 2, the focus would be on design of tactile diagrams based on international guidelines. On day 3, production methodologies for both small scale as well as large-scale production of tactile diagrams would be covered.
Key Objectives of the Workshop
- Develop an understanding of basic methods of adapting print graphics for tactile perception
- Exposure to tactile design with hand-made techniques and simple tools
- Exposure to software tools for making STEM content accessible
- Provide hands on experience to software tools for designing tactile diagrams
- Provide practical exposure to various production technologies
Registration
Tactile designers, special educators, Braille transcribers, and teachers interested in learning computer aided tactile design can register for the workshop. The number of participants for the workshop is limited to 20. A maximum of only 2 participants from any organization can register. It is expected that all participants are interested in setting up such a facility in their own organization. If required they should be able to produce a support letter from their organization.

NOTE:
1.First preference will be given to representatives from organizations who are already involved in tactile graphics design and production or are strongly planning to set up such a facility in their own organization in near future.
2.There is no registration fee for participation though registration for the workshop is mandatory.
3.Refreshments and Lunch will be provided to all registered participants without charge.
4.Travel and stay charges are to be borne by the sponsoring organization and/or the individual concerned.
5.Accommodation will be available on paid basis at the IIT Guest House on first cum first basis due to limited availability. (Single day room rent for single and double room will be INR 1500 and 1800 respectively).
6.No TA/ DA will be paid to the participants.
