Love is Blind – Arsi Nami, Music Therapist

My name is Arsi Nami, I’m an Actor and Music Therapist for Individuals with disabilities and special needs kids.

Love is Blind, a short film where I play the lead role as a visually impaired man is selected for 2017 Official Selection at Cannes Film International Film Festival Entr’2 and 2017 Official Selection at WeCare Film Festival India, with both festival promoting disability awareness. I also composed the original Film soundtrack.

I’ve been involved in healthcare field and the disability community since my teenager years growing up in Sweden. I graduated at California State University of Northridge, with Bachelors Arts Degree in Music Therapy and with honors and now continuing to contribute to the community as a Music Therapist and an Actor.

About 2 years ago, I got into a car accident, putting me into health challenges as well as diagnosed with depression anxiety disorder. I started receiving Physical therapy as well as seeing a psychologist.

With treatments going on, the biggest damage was caused to my heart. I was heartbroken, and at my worst. All dreams about becoming a music therapist, all the years studying it now was on the edge of a cliff. It also lead into going through a tough breakup in a relationship, adding weight on my depression and loneliness. As a music therapist, I told myself I need to find a way and figure out how to overcome the challenge.

One day after coming home from an psychotherapy session, I passed by the SAG-AFTRA (Screen actors guild building) and I saw a post regards to free acting workshops. I thought there is nothing to lose, so I attended the workshops and now had found a possible remedy and distraction to all the pain and my anxiety depression disorder.

A month later, I started attending auditions for fun, and next thing I knew, I was booking International commercials for Samsung, Guitar Center, HP (Hewlett Packard) , NBA, Disney, Curio by Hilton.
I was now flying around the states doing commercials and films in Miami, Phoenix, New York, San Francisco. Everytime I boarded the plane nothing but tear drops came down my face, not understanding what was going on.

Love is Blind

One of the first roles I auditioned for was the role of Giovanni, in a shortfilm “Love is Blind” portraying a visually impaired (blind) man. My chemistry to this role was very close, because I worked for years with visually impaired (blind) clients at clinics and hospitals. It was close to me also because I was going through my injury. Out of 250 submissions, I was chosen to play the role. By being a music therapist, I was also approved by the production to compose Love is Blind, Original Film Soundtrack , as well as create the Official film poster.

As the film was done, and with disability community close to my heart, I took the opportunity to reach out to Presidents at festivals in Cannes and India. Weeks later I got the beautiful news that Love is Blind was now an Official Selection at 2017 Cannes Film festival international Entr’2 Marches a Cannes and We Care Film Festival in India, nominated for Best film.

Villa

“ Villa” another comedy short film, which I also play the lead role in, also an Official Selection at 2017 Premio Tortoreto alla Cultura in Italy and 2017 International Festival of Short Films on Culture & Tourism in India, also nominated for Best Film and best actor. (Pic attached)

Villa was also pre-screened at Warner Brothers Studio’s in Burbank, and I was able to bring my beautiful mother who’ve been by my side and supporting me during my accident and new career path.
Who’ve been reminding me since day one that: “The sun may set, but it will rise again the next day” .

Suicide Awareness

I also did a suicide prevention ad regards to Anxiety and depression disorders, because I was diagnosed with it, hoping to share awareness to help saving lives.

As final words, my goal was never to become famous, I became a music therapist because I believed in unconditional love. Since I was a teenager growing up in Sweden, worked within the healthcare. Choose to help others in need before myself.

As my injury happened, I had to take a step back and think about my own health. It was a setback, but I’m glad that I can now give back by sharing disability awareness at Cannes Film Festival.
