Madras Dyslexia Association is a non-profit, voluntary organisation established in the year of 1991 to support children with Learning Disabilities and to prepare them to cope with challenges in academics. At that time a group of parents of dyslexic children, philanthropists, and educators came together to address the needs of these children. This is how MDA was born and registered as an association with the prime motive of helping children with dyslexia.
It started its operation by mainly spreading awareness and teacher training. Children were given remedial help outside school hours. School centers were being setup with our help. Itinerant teaching was offered to schools, which did not have their own centers, but wanted to help their children.
Then we realized that part time remedial help was not enough for some children and that is when the school Ananya was started in October 1995 to provide a full time pull out program.
MDA has helped in the setting up of many centres and continues to monitor them. The ADVANTAGES of having a Resource room within the school itself are many.
More children can be identified and helped within the school premises itself.
Children do not have to spend time outside school to go for these classes.
The Resource room teachers can closely monitor the progress of the child in class and give the necessary programme for the child in alliance with the class teacher.
The following are the list of schools, which have been running under our assistance.
