Introduction

The objective of this PURASKAR scheme is to recognise and encourage persons and organisations for their contribution to improve the quality of life of the children/persons with special need and hence bringing a change in the social and national life. They should be the role models for others working in the field. Accordingly, in consultation with eminent experts in the field of disability, the nominees (Individuals and Organisations) shall be reviewed.

SCOPE

The process of rehabilitation is an inter-disciplinary process covering various aspects namely, prevention, early detection, intervention, education, vocational training rehabilitation and social integration etc. Apart from resources, it requires dedicated efforts of humans involved in the process of development. In order to recognise their efforts and encourage them to achieve excellence in the field of rehabilitation.

PURASKAR will be presented to outstanding employees with disabilities and outstanding persons with disabilities regardless of whether they are in public sector/Government or private sector. Preference will be given to the placement of women with disabilities, particularly, from the rural areas and self-employed women disabled persons. Women with disabilities may be encouraged to send their nomination for MANOVIKAS KENDRA PURASKAR, 2014.

In the celebration of 40 Years of journey, Manovikas Kendra celebrates and recognises the achievements, contributions and abilities of persons and organisation working in the field of disability and provides an important opportunity to raise awareness about disability issues more broadly across the country.

Categories

The PURASKAR will be presented in the following categories:-

Best Employee working with Disabilities :

Best NGO working in the field of disability:

In each sub-category, individual will be given a Cash PURASKAR of Rs. 1,00,000.00, a Shield, a Certificate and Best NGO will be given a Cash PURASKAR of Rs. 2,00,000.00, a Shield and a Certificate.

Procedure for Selection

Initially, selection will be made by a committee of experts working in the field of Disability.

In addition to this, applications can also be received directly and credibility of applicants will be verified through screening committee. The screening committee will short list the nominees in the categories of PURASKAR to ensure selection of the nominees in the context of nature of the PURASKAR and relative merit.

Criteria for Selection

Criteria for selection of Best Individual:
MANOVIKAS KENDRA PURASKAR, 2014 would be given to best individual who has rendered best services for the cause of the disabled in last 10 years.
Eminence of individual will be determined on the following basis:-

  • The organisation in which he/she works considers him/her as outstanding.
  • He / She has been responsible for initiating new program or services in the last 10 years resulting in benefiting the people with disabilities particularly in rural areas.
  • The workers/officers of the NGOs working for the cause of the disabled could be eligible.
  • His/her contribution should be outstanding in the areas of disabled welfare/ rehabilitation/education/training etc.
  • His/her contribution in developing rehabilitation model for Community Based Rehabilitation and replicating the same in the inaccessible rural areas.
  • Outstanding person championing the welfare and overall development of the disabled and sensitising the community regarding rights and equal opportunities for the disabled.
  • The quality of the work performed by the individual in the cause of the disabled and its significance for the cause will also be given due weightage.

Criteria for selection of Best Organisation:

NGOs / Government aided or otherwise organisations providing education including technical education and vocational training.

The criteria for giving PURASKAR in this category are as under:-

  • Started comprehensive service for people with various disabilities.
  • Adapted new equipment’s
  • Provided new services.
  • Undertaken new strategies for improving existing services
  • Followed-up the clients in rehabilitation
  • Achievements in the area of education/ training/rehabilitation etc. should be outstanding
  • The Institution should have at least 10 years’ experience in the field.
  • The contribution of the institution in extension of outreach services in and around its working headquarters
  • Motivation, involvement and participation of community for rehabilitation of the disabled particularly in rural areas.
  • While selecting the institutions due weightage would be given to voluntary action through participation of local public and efforts for rendering rehabilitation services to the persons with disabilities
