International disabled day celebrations
One day seminar on livelihood rights, equal opportunities and political participation for disabled people / differently abled.
The Federation of Tamilnadu Physically Handicapped Associations and Trust are significant movements of people with disabilities in this state and as an important player of the national disability rights movement. This movement has garned the support of 152 thousand people with disabilities cutting across various ranges and intensities of disabilities. This movement is a citizen’s organisation with out attaching itself with any political affiliations and has remained to be apolitical in realization of the rights of differently abled.
As you might be aware, our federation has played an important key role in influencing the policies and the practice of good governance, pertaining to welfare of the disabled people which includes the change of label of the disabled into differently abled and creation of a separate department. On the eve of December 3rd the International day of the disabled we have resolved to have a seminar on the principles, letter and sprit of the united national convention on the rights of the disabled people. This is in particular to section 29 sub section A & B, of the same, which emphasizes political participation and public engagement in formulation of disability policies stemming out of issues concerned with.
