Research Methods in Autism and Developmental Disabilities

Research Methods in Autism and Developmental Disabilities

national centre for autism indiaThe South Asia International Autism Conference (SAIAC 2015) will start 2015 with a bang! SAIAC will feature speakers from across the world: the US, South Africa, Australia and South Asia. Researchers and practitioners will be joined by outstanding speakers with Autism who will bring perspectives on education, employment, marriage, and living life on the Autism Spectrum!

Research on autism and developmental disabilitites is gaining momentum in India in recent years. Many scientific enquiries delve into complex and lesser known aspects; or investigate where and why policy, theoretical knowledge and practice are at odds; and where research cannot be done experimentally for practical or ethical reasons.

This workshop will provide a critical review of contemporary research procedures, tools and theories and
productively establish a link between dominant theoretical approaches and concrete situations in the field.

The workshop will also focus on knowledge and understanding of basic methodological techniques to
generate meaningful findings, implementation considerations in a limited resource setting as well as
effective ways of communicating research findings.

Researchers will be encouraged to develop their own research ideas to address gaps in current
knowledge, and think critically about how they can further expand their work. Additionally, the workshop
will give upcoming researchers the opportunity to connect with experienced researchers within the field.
The workshop is designed for those already involved in research activity and those contemplating a career in research and want to gain an understanding of research methods that will strengthen their work related to autism and developmental disabilities. The format will include presentations, small group discussions, and demonstrations.

For a limited few, there will be an opportunity to receive an individual consult with an expert for
personal research.

Accompanied by others, lead speakers include:
Dr Thomas S Weisner, Professor, University of California Los Angeles, USA
Dr Roy Richard Grinker, Professor, George Washington University, USA
Dr Tamara Daley, Senior Study Director, Westat, USA
