Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities is implementing umbrella scheme Scholarships for Students with Disabilities for their empowerment through education w.e.f. 1st April, 2018.
There are six components of this scheme i.e.
- Pre-matric ( Class IX and X),
- Post-matric (Class XI to Master’s Degree or Diploma level ),
- Top Class Education (Graduate / Post Graduate Degree or Diploma in 240 notified institutions of excellence),
- National Overseas ( Master’s degree and Doctorate degree in foreign universities abroad),
- National Fellowship (M.Phil/Ph.D in Indian Universities) and
- Free Coaching.
The brief details of umbrella scheme are given below:
Pre-matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

| Parental income ceiling per annum (Rs.) | 2.50 lakh |
| Rate of scholarship | Day scholars: Rs.500/Month hostellers: Rs.800 / Month (plus book grant) disability allowance ranging from Rs.2000/- to Rs.4000-.per annum. |

Post-matric Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

| No. of Scholarships per year | 17,000 |
| Parental income ceiling per annum (Rs.) | 2.50 lakh |
| Rate of scholarship | There are different rates of maintenance allowance forPost-Graduate, Graduate, Diploma, professional courses leading to degree, diploma etc. in different disciplines. It ranges from Rs.900-1600 p.m. for hosteller and Rs.550-750 p.m. for day scholars plus tuition fee (maximum ceiling Rs.1.50 lakh per annum), book allowance and disability allowance ranging from Rs.2000/- to Rs.4000/- per annum |

Scholarship for Top Class Education for Students with Disabilities

| Parental income ceiling per annum (Rs.) | 6.00 lakh |
| Rate of scholarship | Monthly maintenance allowance of Rs.3000/- for hostellers, Rs.1500/- for day scholars, Rs.2000/- per month disability allowance, book grant Rs.5000/-per annum and tuition fee upto Rs.2.00 lakh per annum. |

National Overseas Scholarships for Students with Disabilities
| Courses covered | Master’s degree and Doctorate degree in foreign universities abroad |
| No. of Scholarships per year | 20 |
| Parental income ceiling per annum (Rs.) | 6.00 lakh |
| Rate of scholarship | Maintenance allowance of Pound (Great Britain) 9,900 per annum for UK and US $15,400 for other countries, plus tuition fees, annual contingency allowance, cost of air passage, etc. |
| How to apply | The proforma for submission of application is given in the website of this Department i.e. www.disabilityaffairs.gov.in. Application may be submitted in the prescribed proforma to Under Secretary (Scholarships)., Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Room No.516, 5th Floor, Pt. Deendayal Antyodaya Bhawan, Lodhi Road, New Delhi – 110003 throughout the year. |
National Fellowship for Persons with Disabilities

| Parental income ceiling per annum (Rs.) | No Incoming ceiling |
| Rate of scholarship | Monthly Rs.31,000/- for JRF (first two years) and Rs.35,000/- for SRF (3rd year onwards upto complete duration of the course) and contingency grant, escort allowance/ reader allowance and House Rent Allowance (at applicable rates). |
| How to apply | Selection is done by the University Grants Commission. The candidates may like to apply online as and when applications are invited by UGC. No application is required to be sent to Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. |
Free Coaching
| Courses covered | For appearing in competitive examinations for jobs in Government/Public Sector and admission to technical and professional courses |
| No. of Scholarships per year | 2000 |
| Parental income ceiling per annum (Rs.) | 6.00 lakh |
| Rate of scholarship | Coaching fee shall be payable to empanelled Institute by this Department. Stipend and Special allowance for Disability @ Rs.7,000/- per month for outstation candidates and Rs.4,500/- per month for local candidates shall be payable. |
| How to apply | Students may contact empanelled Coaching Institutes. The list of empanelled Institutes is available in the website of this Department. |
All the above scholarship are applicable to students with disabilities with 40% and above disability and having a proper disability certificate to this effect issued by a competent medical authority. Disability is as defined in Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.
