Vidya Sagar students are celebrating Project Day on the 12th December 2014 ,  from 10.30 am to 5.00 pm. The theme for this year’s project is “ Science in Every Day Life ”.

The Vidya Sagar students have been working on this topic for the last 6/8 months. They are going to use aids and technology to explain their project.
Science is deeply rooted in our everyday lives. It is a collection of systematic knowledge regarding our surroundings and how we can make use of them.

The students in the process of preparing their projects and presentations explored various objects, places and concepts in order to understand and recreate for putting on display how science is present in our everyday lives.

Senior School

Alternative Sources of Energy

The students learnt about alternative sources of energy such as Solar Power, Wind Power and Biogas. They learnt the principles upon which these work, their uses and where they are located.

Medicine

The students learnt about Ayurvedic and Allopathic medicines, diagnostic equipment, the principles they work upon and their uses.

Space and Technology

The students learnt about Space, Rocket launches and Astronauts. The students will present to make a telescope, aerofoil, facts about rocket fuel, building a home satellite and how to control thrust.

Simple and Complex Machines

The students learnt about the principles behind simple and complex machines – inside the house and within the immediate environment. The students’ presentation is on fun with science.

Middle School

Telecommunication Technology

The students learnt about the current trends in e-commerce, net banking and different services and applications (apps) using both computers and mobile phones. The students’ presentations include Skype, Google Maps and Universal Design in telecommunication.

Work, Force & Energy.

The students carried out different activities which involved work force and energy. Thus, they learnt that energy is required for these actions to take place and the sources of energy. By carrying out different activities, they were able to learn about the slow and fast movements and how they are affected by force. The presentations include understanding fulcrum, force and lever.

Primary School

States of Matter

The students were taught about matter, followed by which they did activities to understand how matter changes
form. In doing so, the students made ice cubes, boiled and vaporized water. They learnt the properties of solids, liquids and gases and conversion through processes of freezing, melting and vaporization.

Volume and Measurement

Using concepts of basic math and different shapes the students were shown how volume and measurements are important in everyday life. Concepts of length, breadth, height, weight, mass and volume were introduced. Measuring units such as weighing scales, inch tape, ruler, thermometer and measuring cups were introduced too.

Plant Germination and Parts of Plants

The students learnt a poem on plant germination; grew onions, potatoes, mustard and carrots in the class; they
learnt about parts of the plant. And about the essentials such as sunlight, water and soil required for germination; about water absorbing plants and about life out of waste.

Agriculture

The students learnt about the various processes involved in agriculture, such as ploughing, sowing, irrigation, weeding and harvesting. They also learnt about pesticides and fertilizers and the various tools used in the process. The presentation includes live demo of farming.

Science in the park

The students were taken to the swings and through play taught concepts pushing and pulling, up and down and sliding. They were then taught how the inclined plane is used to easily move things; the lever to lift things; and about gravity and centrifugal force which can be felt but not seen through playing on the merry-go-round.

Aquatic Life

The students visited an Aquarium and learnt about 5 kinds of fish and the endangered turtles. They learnt the difference between how fish and human beings breathe; how humans breathe underwater and the concept of floating and sinking.

Pre-Primary School

Science in Play

The students were involved in various activities to learn about how sound travels through air. They also learnt that air inflates a balloon making it bigger and causes it to fly up in the air. The children present fun activities like how to make soap bubbles and how to paint with bubbles.
