The job involves operation of the Index Braille Embosser and the Braille Transcription software for printing of Braille books. The candidate also has to supervise the e-text books production which involves scanning, proofreading and mark-up
Government Regional Braille Press is functioning in the campus of the Government Higher Secondary School for the Blind, Poonamallee to supply Braille books for the visually handicapped students.
The modern printing facility that was recently set up with imported machines from Norway is capable of printing five lakh Braille copies per month. But the demand for Braille text books is much less. List of Braille Presses in India
“The modern printing facility that was recently set up with imported machines from Norway is capable of printing five lakh Braille copies per month. But the demand for Braille text books is much less. Only about 330 Braille text books have been sold so far in 2010-2011 and two books have been distributed free of cost,” said I. Arivanandham, Regional Director (incharge) of NIVH.
Applications are invited for the National Awards for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, latest date by16th August, 2011. Applications received after the last date and/or not recommended by the prescribed authority/person will not be entertained.
