The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is planning to set up a sign language institute for the hearing impaired and will organise seminars and workshops for their empowerment, a university statement said.

IGNOU created the National Centre for Differently Abled (NCDA) to provide educational, vocational and awareness programmes for the differently abled and develop appropriate information and communication technology and software for education and training in the area of disability.
They may not have the power of speech, but education would soon empower over 40 lakh hearing impaired adult students in the country.
A host of disability related programmes was launched at Indira Gandhi National Open University’s Twenty-first Convocation here on Monday.
