SCARF is the acronym for the Schizophrenia Research Foundation, a non governmental, non profit organization in Chennai ( formerly Madras) in south India Founded in 1984 by a group of philanthropists and mental health professionals led by Dr. M.Sarada Menon, an internationally known psychiatrist, SCARF has established itself as a center of repute in rehabilitation and research in disorders of the mind.

The Institute presently, through its human resource development programmes, offers, amongst others, training to qualify Vocational Instructors for persons with mental retardation. This course, developed by the Navajyothi Trust, is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India and is also being offered by the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped at Secunderabad and by the Govt. Institute of Mental Retardation at Chandigarh.

This centre is the special section of the school for normal children. It functions as a special school or in other words a day care centre. The institute presently has about 100 children comprising of Hearing Impaired and Mentally retarded children.

Established in 1987, the organization assist disabled of all categories through prevention, cure, education, vocational training and rehabilitation. More than 2500 disabled in 60 Rural locations and in Trichirapalli receive services every year.
