St.Peter Paul Educational and Cultural Trust

St.Peter Paul Educational and Cultural Trust (SPECT) is a pioneer Non Governmental Organization in Villupuram District, Tamilnadu, India. The trust started in 1991 when a group of energetic young teachers, academics and social scientists joined together and implemented solutions for children with disabilities and Dalit children. The NGO manages two schools in this rural area: St. Peter Paul Special Residential School for Disabled Children in Mugaiyur and St. Peter Paul Primary School for Dalit Children in Puravadai.

These NGOs are initiatives of well intentioned individuals who were interested in contributing to the Society. However, what they lack may be the professional outlook, requisite administrative skills, financial know-how and fund raising techniques. At times, the lack of proper processes might be perceived as lack of transparency with prospective donors and well wishers.

UDAVI Society – Upliftment of democratic and village improvement

Poverty among the urban population has many deterring effects and foremost of them would be inability to fulfill basic needs and the absence of cohesion within the community. In such an unfavorable scenario, differently abled persons in urban slums are doubly marginalized and vulnerable since they have to bear the brunt of socio economic status coupled with their physical/mental conditions. Apart from toiling under grave poverty, ripped off basic amenities, the differently abled have very less access to medical facilities and are denied support services. Inaccessibility to therapeutic measures is a part of economic deficiency and low self esteem characterized in differently abled is attributed to the need for belonging and self sufficiency.

Multiple Sclerosis Society of India – Chennai

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a common neurological disorder diagnosed in young adults. Its causes are not yet fully understood and researchers continue to search for answers. MS is not contagious and does not shorten the life-expectancy of those who are diagnosed with it. Although the condition may not be cured or prevented, presently treatments are available to reduce severity and delay progression.

This organization started its service in a rented building at Adyar, Chennai which shifted soon to its own campus on 11.52 acres situated at Palavakkam which is towards the south of Chennai on the East Coast Road, in June 1983.
