A large number of rural based disabled children hailing from the poor socio-economic background are deprived of opportunities for medical & other rehabilitation services. The Council through its well-knit District level Councils & network of other NGO’s receive such children at the Chennai based residential Child Care Center. They are provided with services like surgeries, physiotherapy, orthotics aids, counseling, special school and sponsorship assistance.

The differently abled are not subjects of charity and patronage but holders of rights and those rights demanded by them should be given to them. Tamil Nadu has pioneered many social movements and hope it comes up with something similar in the case of the differently abled, according to Brinda Karat, Polit Bureau member, Communist Party of India (Marxist).

Being blind, or suffering from any form of disability, means that simple, daily acts are likely to turn into an ordeal. Everyday movements performed without much thought by a non-disabled person, are laden with obstacles for a blind person. Such is the case for the blind community living in Gandhi Nagar, Trichy District, in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
