In computing the total income of an assessee who is resident in India, being an individual or a hindu undivided family, there shall be deduction, in accordance with and subject to the provisions of this section, an amount not exceeding twenty thousand rupees (Rs.20,000) paid or deposited by him in the previous year out of his income chargeable to tax, under any scheme framed in this behalf by the Life Insurance Corporation or the Unit Trust of India subject to the conditions specified in sub-section (2) and approved by the board in this behalf.

The concession certificate can be issued by Medical Practitioner/Government Doctor/Heads of the Institutions for the Blind recognized by Ministry of Welfare/Govt. of India or Social Welfare Department of the concerned State Government. The copy of original certificate may be produced while collecting the ticket.

Railway concession for blind & mentally impaired persons extended to Rajdhani & Shatabdi

The Ministry of Railways has decided to extend facility of concession in rail fare to completely blind persons and mentally retarded persons in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. The concession for both the categories would be 25 per cent in 3rd AC and AC Chair Car in Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains. Same concession will also be admissible to one escort accompanying such person.
