The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) is planning to set up a sign language institute for the hearing impaired and will organise seminars and workshops for their empowerment, a university statement said.

Established in 1987, the organization assist disabled of all categories through prevention, cure, education, vocational training and rehabilitation. More than 2500 disabled in 60 Rural locations and in Trichirapalli receive services every year.
The aim of this FDMSE is to translate the declaration of Swami Vivekananda into action. With regard to proper education, he had said that all perfection and powers were already within each individual, and education was the means to make them manifest in the lives of individuals.
If the interaction between the parents and the child is proper and methodical, the hearing impaired child can start learning the vocabulary and develop language structures along with the development of communication skills easily,we may say rather spontaneously. These children have the same innate capacity to learn language as that of a hearing one. They shouldn’t be under estimated. But slow learning should be attributed to the fact that such children haven’t heard any language.
Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University created a visual dictionary of Indian Sign Language containing huge number of signs and we are improving it everyday.
