Children admitted to ANBAGAM are tested by Psychologists and categorized into groups based on their mental development. There are two caregivers and one teacher for every ten children. The first stage of training focuses on essential personal skills such as brushing teeth, bathing, toileting and eating without assistance. Once past this stage, the children are taught to read, write and speak.
The Anbalaya Special School was established on 15th September, 2003. Totally 42 mentally retarded children belongs to very poor public are enrolled. Of them 20 are female and 22 are male.

Abilympics (Olympics of abilities) are vocational skills competitions (not sports) for persons of all disabilities. In 1972, the Japan Association for Employment of the Disabled, under the Ministry of Labour, held the Olympics of Abilities.

Little Flower Convent Higher Secondary School for the Deaf is located at the heart of the city of Chennai. It was established in 1926 by the Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and was recognized by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 1931. It was upgraded as a High School in 1968 and as a Higher Secondary School in 1980.
Disha Foundation is a registered charitable trust established on November 16, 2006 at Chennai. The founders and the members of Disha are mostly youngsters in the mid twenties, from different localities and backgrounds.
