The Sri Rakum School for the Blind was opened in June 1998, India. Acharya Sri Rakum, the founder and caretaker of this School, left behind a career in martial arts in Japan and India to pursue what he likes to call the “creative use of his power”
The course, perhaps the first of its kind in India, aims at moulding students into radio/video jockeys (RJs/VJs), anchors, technical writers and digital journalists. The focus is on voice-based journalism as the course is exclusively for visually challenged students.
Over the past 4 plus decades, Shree Ramana Maharishi Academy for the Blind services have reached over 16000 persons through the School (IBR) and Thirumurthy Rural Development Centre (IBR).
