Empowering teachers Enabling Learners - The Project Red Flag: A Sol's ARC Initiative

“More than 100 Million (50%) children in India are at risk of mental health issues, abuse, and disabilities.”

At Sol’s ARC- an NGO working in the education inclusion space, we are working on the project Red Flag to develop a web-app based screening tool. Tool will help teachers identify, screen and manage students facing these risks.

Project Red Flag

Project Red Flag aims to develop the world’s first robust and comprehensive Risk Assessment tool through rigorous research and expert guidance. This tool will help teachers / parents / administrators in identifying and managing multiple risks thus building a better future for the most vulnerable children in our country.

This holistic solution is called “SLATE” which is an acronym for Screen, Learn, Act, Track, Enable. The project aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Screen– Web-app-based risk assessment tool to screen children at risk of mental health issues, abuse and disability.
  • Learn– Provide training to teachers on identifying & managing these risks in the classrooms.
  • Act– to avail the benefits for children at risk by accessing eligible scheme information.
  • Track– the implementation of schemes & policy by stakeholder role-mapping.
  • Enable– a better future for children at risk by empowering all stakeholders.

Way Forward

  • Plan to pilot the risk assessment tool in 2020-21 in at least 4 locations across India and study the results.
  • Develop the training modules for teachers and finalize the tool for scale-up.
  • Scale up the Red Flag tool Pan India and train 50,000 teachers by 2023.
