The Institute presently, through its human resource development programmes, offers, amongst others, training to qualify Vocational Instructors for persons with mental retardation. This course, developed by the Navajyothi Trust, is recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India and is also being offered by the National Institute for the Mentally Handicapped at Secunderabad and by the Govt. Institute of Mental Retardation at Chandigarh.
This centre is the special section of the school for normal children. It functions as a special school or in other words a day care centre. The institute presently has about 100 children comprising of Hearing Impaired and Mentally retarded children.

This is a special school for the visually impaired, founded in e year 1980, August 18th, by the Brothers of the Sacred Hearth of Jesus. Ref. Br. A. Thomas SHJ was the founder of the Institution. It is a Government recognized school for the Blind. Ref. I. Mathalai Muthu SHJ is the present Director and Correspondent.
One of the most memorable experiences from my visit was a speech given by a visually impaired alumnus of IELC. He had been invited as a guest speaker to inspire and encourage the students towards success.
