Patients with locomotor / orthopaedic disabilities due to various ailments like poliomyelitis, Cerebral Palsy, Congenital Deformities, Leprosy, Burn contracture, Paraplegia, Hemiplegia etc.

As per National Sample Survey Organization’s (NSSO) Survey 2002, the number of disabled persons in the country is 18.49 million and they formed about 1.8% of the total estimated population. The census 2001 indicates that 2.2% of the total population is affected by disability.
There exist six National Institutes alongwith their respective regional centres in each of the major area of disability.
This is a programme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Children with severe multiple disabilities who have difficulty in coping with regular schools are referred to such special schools
Providing access to basic education is a duty the Indian state that has taken upon itself. Therefore the government has taken various measures to provide access to education to all categories of students.
IGNOU created the National Centre for Differently Abled (NCDA) to provide educational, vocational and awareness programmes for the differently abled and develop appropriate information and communication technology and software for education and training in the area of disability.
To ensure greater participation of disabled in higher & professional education by providing disabled friendly campus, class rooms and courses in order to prepare students of strong character enriched with traditional and modern knowledge.
The Undergraduate level course is open for all where as the diploma level course is exclusively for handicapped. For accomplishment of this noble task, the institute is making consistent efforts with the help of innovative and committed faculty, technical and non-technical staff members and the students for growth and progress
