Vidyanjali was started on 21st December 2003. We started with 2 therapist and 7 children. We started our work with children having physical challenges and intellectual challenges (cerebral palsy, down’s syndrome, Autism, ADHD, Learning Difficulty, Petts syndrome, Fragile X syndrome, etc). After a year we became a land mark centre for treating autistic spectrum disorder children. The journey continued with a question of what can be done more for these children.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy is the art and science of helping people do their day to day activities that are important to them despite their impairment, disability or handicap.
‘Occupation’ in occupational therapy does not simply refer to jobs or job training ; Occupation in occupational therapy refer to all of the activities that occupies peoples time and gives meaning to their lives.
Occupational Performance areas can be divided into:
1. Activities of daily living
2. Work and productivity activities
3. Play and Leisure activities
Play Therapy:
A therapy that provides space for a child to show himself/herself transparently in an unstructured and unconditional environment is called play therapy. This environment helps the child to explore physically but not intellectually.
The play environment in Vidyanjali is a completely non plastic, natural environment. We provide toys made out of wood, metal, mud and clothes.
Physiotherapy:
Physical therapy (also physiotherapy) is a health care profession that provides treatment to individuals to develop, maintain and restore maximum movement and function throughout life.Physical therapy is concerned with identifying and maximizing quality of life and movement potential within the spheres of promotion, prevention, treatment/intervention, habilitation and rehabilitation. This encompasses physical, psychological, emotional, and social well being.Physical therapy has many specialties including cardiopulmonary, geriatrics, neurologic, orthopaedic and pediatrics, to name some of the more common areas.
Neuro developmental Therapy:
Neurodevelopmental therapy is a non-invasive programme of movements which aims to promote development of the nervous system and the inhibition of primitive reflexes. By incorporating movements which are used naturally by a baby and a young child, the nervous system is gently encouraged to mature and become more open to learning.
