We Can – We challenges Autism now

We CAN was started in the year 2001 by a group of parents; professionals and concerned individuals who felt a need for an organization that would cater to the unique needs of those with autism.

We CAN has been founded on the belief that you can teach a child with autism anything if it is taught to him in the way he learns.

At We CAN, each child’s programme is individually designed to cater to his specific needs and is implemented on a one-on-one basis.

We broadly follow the principles of Verbal Behavior Analysis which primarily works on positive reinforcement and the motivation of the child.

To achieve our ultimate objective of inclusion of our children in the society, along with working with children , we simultaneously work towards creating awareness, understanding and acceptance of autism

We CAN is a charitable trust, which is run by Ms. Gita Srikanth and Ms. Hemamalini Jairam together with an enthusiastic and committed team of trained teachers and volunteers.

  • Awareness programmes for colleges, corporates and social organizations in Chennai and parts of Tamil Nadu.
  • Training workshops for parents and professionals by inviting faculty from New Delhi, UK and Dubai.
  • Workshops for mainstream schoolteachers in Chennai to make them aware about autism and enable them to aid in early detection and inclusion.
  • Launched an ‘Awareness Campaign’ with a one minute clipping starring our Awareness Ambassadors, Suriya and Jyotika. The clipping was screened by Real Image Media Technologies Private Ltd in 138 theatres across Tamil Nadu.
  • We are working on getting literature on autism translated into Tamil since there is practically no information available in local languages.
